Again from the back seat...

Mommy can people change their names when they get big?  Yes I guess. Why do you not like your name?  No I want to change it to Miniman Kenny. Why Brayden?  Because that name is super cool!  Hmm, ok Kenny...

Conversations from the back seat...

Mom, can people change people from a boy to a girl? (Mom enters battle of honesty in her mind). Finally, I decide he's not ready for that so I say no. Why? Well because I want to be changed into a girl. Why Brayden?  Well because I want to wear earrings. Well Brayden sometimes even boys wear earrings. No mommy I want to wear the red dangly ones like Allison wears. Oh I say. But I thought you wanted to grow up and play football. Well Mom, I can always be a cheerleader. That's just as fun. Oh yeah I guess you're right Brayden.

Can I have two jobs mommy?  Sure what do you want to be?  I want to be a policeman and a horse driver. You know you can be a horse driving policeman?  I can?!?! He yelled very excitedly. Well how old do I have to be?  Well in your twenties I think. Ugh! He deflated..that's going to take forever. Is that how old daddy is?  No honey he's 39. What?!  That's really old!

I love conversations from the back seat.

Watching Brayden draw on his paper, I leaned over and asked him, "What'ya drawing?" "I'm writing my very bestest friend in the whole wide world." Who is that?" It starts with mmmmmm... Hmm who is that I smiled. MOMMY! He yelled. Mmmmmmelted my heart. Gotta hold onto that paper.

Buckin' Bull

For Halloween, Brad bought Brayden a Bevo the Longhorn costume. He was so excited he wanted to wear it everyday. We would pry it off of him at bed time and explain why he couldn't wear it to school. So finally Halloween arrived and Brayden got to wear his costume. When we arrived at the first house the candy sharers exclaimed, "Wow! You're bevo!" Bevo? Brayden said looking up at me in confusion. "I'm a "buckin' bull". I patted his little horned head and smiled. Say thank you I reminded, which he did. The same scenario played out at each house with Brayden getting more and more frustrated that people didn't recognize that he was a buckin' bull. On the last house, as we approached, we could see the maroon flag flying high and the gig 'em spread across her "elderly"chest. This fact is slightly important. He says trick or treat with a big smile, to which she pulls back her candy bowl and says, "Sorry I can't give you candy because you're Bevo." At this point Brayden still has no idea why people are calling him Bevo and his little patience have run out. He puffs up his chest and yells, "I'm not Bevo, I'm a buckin' bull!! Her shocked expression and loud gasp tell me that buckin' bull is not at all what she heard. I panicked and started acting out a galloping, bucking bull hoping to explain his words. Finally she releases a sigh, hands him the candy and sends us all on our way with a hidden grin. What a hoot this kid is!!

Poker

So we're having some trouble with behavior in the classroom. Getting a yellow warning in his folder EVERY day this week has been horrible. Day 1: scratched another student for cutting in line. Ugh!! Well I was there first he yells in defense. Brayden you can't scratch other people. That's not nice. Day 2: again in line...another student cut in line so Brayden poked her bottom. Gasp!! Brayden, you don't poke someone's bottom. That's not nice!
So sitting at dinner, one of three families trying to have a nice quiet dinner, Brayden spots a friend from class. Maya!! He yells as he launches from his seat and runs to throw his arms around her. Aww my heart constricts. So sweet. He talks for a moment and then heads back to his seat. Hopping into his seat, he YELLS, mommy that's my friend Maya. She's the one whose butt I poked! Did i say yelled? yes, yelled! Restaurant goes quiet, mom fights the overwhelming urge to slide under the table.

Bad Words...

"Mommy," Brayden said, "Its not good to say bad words right?" "Right, Brayden its not good." "Hmm," he said, "well I was just wondering if I could say a bad word." "Why do you want to do that?" I ask, fighting back a grin. "Well, I bumped my elbow and it's really hurting." "So what will saying a bad word do for your elbow?" I ask. "I will feel much better," Brayden says very seriously. I chuckle. "Maybe you could try saying aww man like Dora." "No mommy I bumped it harder than that." "So that means you need to say something worse?" I ask. "Yes mommy something way worse." "Well I'm thinking that your elbow must be feeling better already even without the bad word." He smiles. "Well it feels a little better because I said it in here, in my noggin."

This kid floors me!!!

Too wittle

Sitting at a very crowded restaurant, Brayden announces that he needs to potty. I rise from my seat to assist. He stops, holds up his hand and yells, "no! I can do it myself!". My oldest son runs to help, claiming he needs to go too so that Brayden will stop yelling. They are gone for a very short time and they both come back with a canary eating grin. What is funny? I ask. Brayden missed the potty Camden says. Oh bray, I say. I can't help it! he yells, "my wiener is too wittle!!!". Oh if I could fit under the table.....
